Amon Amarth

Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds MCD
(Pulverised - 1996)
Basically a Dissection clone tending towards the more pure death-ish sound of At The Gates but without the rapidly changing technicalities of either. Instead they go for a more epic, harmonic, weighty and consistent sound with simple melodic lines. In a way, this gives them a more grand sound than the aforementioned Dissection but it makes them less 'interesting'. Superb fret-work with sweeping harmonies make this album a winner and the vocals are powerful throaty roars. The full production complements the music well. This is nothing truly original and extraordinary and it doesn't vary much, but it is definitely recommended.
